About this Speaker

Blake Bennett (Ph.D., University of Canterbury, New Zealand) is a lecturer in the Bachelor of Sport, Health, and Physical Education degree in the School of Curriculum and Pedagogy at the University of Auckland. Blake completed his Doctoral degree in 2016, the field of sport coaching with a focus on the pedagogies of rugby coaches in New Zealand and Japanese secondary schools.

He completed his Master’s Degree in Sport Sciences at the Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences, Japan, regarding aggression and violence in the Japanese martial art of Kendo. Currently, Blake's research focuses on two lines of inquiry – the first is concerned with ‘Online Coaching’ in high performance martial arts contexts; and the second is on the influences of child safeguarding policy on volunteer coaches’ practice. Blake has been coaching in the volunteer space for over 20 years, and is also the current coach of the Men’s New Zealand Kendo Team.
