Garry Carnachan has more than 20 year’s experience in the professional and community sport space in senior management and governance leadership roles. Following leaving his role as principal of Opunake High school in 2001, Garry worked in professional rugby, as Professional Player Development Manager followed by a stint as Team Manager for both the Hurricanes and Junior All Blacks teams.
For the past 12 years, he has worked across all schools and NSOs in NZ as CEO of School Sport NZ (NZSSSC). During this time Garry has been a part of or has led reviews into youth sport many NSOs, including Rugby, Netball, and Football. He has been a part of several Sport NZ review and advisory working groups and has facilitated strategic reviews for a variety of sporting organisations and schools. Garry also has extensive sport governance experience and is currently a director of NZFootball (Vice President), University and Tertiary Sport NZ, AFLNZ and the Taranaki Community Rugby Trust as well as serving on the NZ Community Trust Taranaki Regional Advisory Board.
