About this talk

Dunedin Gymnastic Academy (DGA) has over 720 members and many more users of its facilities and coach resource. Designing programmes to meet the needs of our community plays a big role in the success of our Club. Our goal is to provide the pathways, fun, fitness, and fundamentals that ensure a positive and lasting experience; from the very first gymnastics experience starting out in play-gym, through our recreational and competitive programmes, to the other end where we offer adult classes. All these programmes are underpinned by a focus around health and safety, with policies and codes of conduct, coach education and a strong strategic direction to ensure our DGA vision and mission is successful. With the bonus of an in-house physiotherapist and ex-gymnast/coach, (Amy Hooson) we have her wonderful services and input to help inform our members and our management around good decision making when setting hours of training and loading for our gymnasts (particularly in our competitive programmes). We look at the benefits of gymnastics as a sport, how to manage load and injury prevention as well as developing a good Club Culture that nurtures our athletes and sets them up for a life-long involvement in Sport.
