About this talk

Raylene Bates MNZM (World Para Athletics Coach Facilitator and Athletics New Zealand Lead Para Coach) talks about adapting to the current times and changes incurred to keep the Oceania region at the forefront of para athletics heading to Tokyo and beyond.

Why was New Zealand the top ranked country in Rio 2016 Paralympic Games for medals per capita and why is it that the New Zealand Para Athletics programme is now recognised worldwide? From 3 athletes and no medals in London in 2012 to 8 eight athletes and 9 medals in Rio 2016….. Bates will explain what created the success, what changed, and how the programme became an international success.
